MaMa Appeal & Slouchy Hat Pattern.

So, the group that meets weekly in Rose Howey asked me to create a hat pattern that they could then follow to make and sell to raise funds for MaMa (Migrant Artists Mutual Aid), and in particular for one of the women who attends with her 2yr old daughter.  Mum, is threatened with being returned to India, the daughter was born in the UK, but if she is sent back with her mum, both will almost certainly be killed.

Mum's husband beat  her while she was pregnant, she fled to the UK to seek sanctuary, her daughter was born here, and has brain damage as a result of the beatings, which requires medical supervision. Mum is currently fighting to stay, if sent back she will be brought in front of her tribal council, which is all male, her husband will lie, and the council will sentence her and her daughter, (because girls are not valued, and certainly not with medical conditions) to death.

Please, please help us to raise funds to help this small family stay here and be safe.
I have written the slouchy hat pattern, which is suitable for beginners (and includes links to tutorials and videos for special stitches).  I'm asking folks to make a donation for the pattern - I suggest £5, but honestly, anything you can afford is gratefully received.  The pattern is for personal use, although if you wish to make hats and sell them for MaMa that would be wonderful.

This is the Slouchy Hat Pattern  Please use the Donate button on the side bar.  Thank you so much!

The hats in the photographs above are also available for sale, check out my facebook page By Hook or Crook

All proceeds from sale of hats and donations for the pattern will go to MaMa.

Fiddlesticks!

There's very little in crochet that hasn't been done before in some shape or form. It's particularly galling to have an idea...and discover it's already been done.

I hooked a poncho for a housemate's mum last year, it was a pretty pattern, and the poncho was made from two rectangle pieces, adding extra interest in the design. Lucy, from Attic 24, also hooked a poncho, which looked deliciously warm. And popular of late is the different stitch pattern blankets, and mandalas. All giving me an idea for a freeform poncho using the basic rectangle construction.

And today on Pinterest I saw this;

Ok, not exactly as I envisaged, but close.

Bah humbug.

Pretty though.

Flower workshop.

Ooh the workshop at The Make Studio was so much fun!

Everyone produced pretty flower brooches, and well, Natasha put on a fab event - I'm looking forward to going back again for the next event.

Talking of workshops, I have a lovely written tutorial for the flower brooch, if you'd like a free copy message me on my fb page (link at the top of the blog) or email me at hookydelights@gmail.com

Flower workshop

Oh my giddy aunt, I'm excited, nervous - no actually terrified! I'm running flower crochet workshops at The MakeStudio on Saturday, and while I've tutored, and ran my own workshops - I've never done it for an event before.

It will be great, it will, I'm pretty darn good with a hook and yarn, I love sharing my knowledge and expertise...it will be a hoot!

Still terrified.

Would you like a wee nosey at the flower I've created for the workshop. A fairly simple 3 layer flower, but adding in some advance techniques, standing stitches, invisible joins, and possibly unfamiliar stitch to novices. Plus a very easy flower to adapt in a myriad of ways.

Once I pick up me hook, I'll be fine!

Hope to see you there!
