Beltane.

My day started very early.   The sun wasn't even up when I woke, I snuggled for a bit longer, and then sat up to watch the sun rise, and crochet some humongous chains using 3 strands of yarn or more, to create big garlands for the garden.

Then downstairs and into the garden to hang the garlands on the fences, and to set up the maypole and get all the chairs, bean bag etc out for guests arriving later in the afternoon.  Rye rose after I'd finished and set too with the business of playing:
Still in his pjs.  Bless him.  I brought most of the toys out, such a lovely day - if very windy.
And then a quick trip to the supermarket, (and I still forgot the coffee), quick cuppa at Jen's and then back to mine to steam clean the toilet and sink in the bathroom.  There was dried on chocolate prints all over the taps and sink, which did not look at all attractive.  And then I began cooking.
Potatoe salad with wild garlic, green salad, burgers, sausages, veggie sausages and burgers, cajun spiced vegetable kebabs, bbq'd courgette and aubergine and friends brought more salad and a lovely South African potatoe salad, which contained potatoes, boiled eggs, onion and tomatoes, homebaked loaf, chilli sausages etc - yum.  Ooooh and a wee slurp of homemade peach wine, which was so very potent and so very lovely!

We ate until we were stuffed - and considering the amount, it was mostly consumed; there were 5 adults and 7 children.  After dinner, (and using some of my mum's dinner service), we sat and nattered while the children played and then began the maypole dance attempt - LOL.

Took a moment to remember how to dance the maypole, and then we had a hilarious attempt.  The ribons could do with being a bit longer, still, when we use this pole next week for the home ed group, it will be sank a foot or so into sand, so the ribbons should be ok, I think.  Need another ribbon, or to take one away though.
The children had fun though, playing with the ribbons and running around the pole.
Then more play, more natter and then friends began to leave for homes.  A fun day, really enjoyed it and glad I made the effort to celebrate.
Hail to Helios for keeping the sun shining!

And hail the God of dishwashers!  lol.
