Up and out.

We both had doctor appointments this morning so we were out the door at 8:20am, we walk through the park to get onto the High Street, Rye was disappointed that we did'thave time to stop and have a play, so I promised he could on the way back.

First he experimented with running his police car down the slide - learning about gravity and of course, things with wheels go very fast down slides :)

Then as we slowly began to walk back home, he decided running around the bushes at the side of the path would be fabulous fun - and he got to see all the birds fly out of his way.

This was your average "Hurry up mummy" look.

As for the docs, it was fine, Rye is pigeon toed, so the doc has written him a referral to see whether it's marked enough to require correction. I did feel a bit bad because he got me to walk with Rye too and remarked that I'm pigeoned toed... thus looks like the poor lad has inherited it off me :(
Doctor also checked my ears and noted they are very congested and because the cannal in my ears tilts upwards they don't drain very well, hence the limited hearing. He's written me a referral for a hearing test to "see" just how bad it is.

It was actually rather nice to wake up and get out of the house early -although it wasn't required, my appointment was at 9:50 and Rye's at 10am, not 8.50 and 9am as I thought.. oops. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait till our appointments, the doctor managed to fit us in nicely - I'm assuming the swineflu is making people avoid surgeries and the like, because it was very quiet. Then we meandered back home, through the park, for toast with damson jam - yum.

Meandering sort of day.

This was Rye last night after the day at the beach. He is worrying me a little though, he is going through a stage where he has to be able to feel me, if I leave the bedroom, at some point in his sleep he will launch himself over to my side of the bed; and if I'm not there straight onto the floor. He's fallen out of the bed a couple of times lately, and I just thought it was a simple case of him rolling over too far. Last night though, I popped downstairs for a few bits and bats and as I walked around to my side of the bed he suddenly sat upright in bed and launched himself. I only just caught him, and yeah, he was fast asleep. He does it sometimes during the night too when I am there. It's really odd.

He loves the elephant, particularly now he can get up on it on his own. Amazing how quickly he's grown! Most people assume he's older because he is quite big for a 2 year old.

Ahh yes, the swings, he adores the swings, I'm toying with getting one for the garden.

He's fallen asleep in his favourite place, I was making cheese and ham pancakes for a late lunch and when Ipopped my head around the door, he was like this :)

The doctors was fine, he said he couldn't really see a lazy eye but he was happy to make a referral on my concern. He asked if I could try and get some photos. Regarding his feet he asked if I could make another appointment. Apparently, only one condition per appointment. Crazy. I don't mind too much though because I need to see the doctor about my hearing and the receptionists has given me two back to back appointments for Tuesday.

Blowing away the cobwebs.

The financial worries have been getting a bit on top of me the past few days, so I've been hibernating a bit and feeling sorry for myself. Poor Rye was going a bit stir crazy stuck inside with an apathetic mother, so I decided the day at the beach was required to blow the cobwebs away and its worked a treat.

Rye, bless him, really found his bravery and went in the sea with his "Aunty" S. I was so suprised and proud. He started off letting splashing a little in the wave left as it starts to retreat, until he was running in and splashing, then running back out. He followed me in a ways too, he lost his balance a few times and after the briefest of panics, he was back in the water laughing. He insisted we took turns going in the sea with him.

He commandeered this large sand hole and his Aunty S made a channel for the incoming tide. Wow, he loved it, splashing and jumping in the sea.

I heard the chair scraping on the floor and went to investigate and found Rye on the worktops trying to put together the magimix. Seems he already understands that it has have the bowel and lid on before the buttons will work. I am discouraging climbing onto the worktops because he could easily knock the kettle on and burn himself, or even crawl onto the hob. He understands hot but being an exploratory toddler what he knows often goes out the window when he's involved in adventure.

And, the day at the beach accomplished its goal. The cobwebs have been blown away and I'm feeling much more positive again. Plus, I am receiving some help in the interim for the rent (woohoo), and when we arrived home this evening, I discovered the forms from the County Council so I can put my details on the Children's Information Service website, so I'll get those filled out in the morning and then posted later when I take Rye down to the GPs. I've booked him an appointment because I need a referral to the hospital optician to check his eyes and I've noticed that one of his feet turns quite markedly inwards when he's walking, hence the constant falling down, he is quite literally, tripping over his own feet. Not sure what they can do for that but I can inquire.
